The Egyptian land in Upper Egypt continues to reveal its precious secrets, which reflect a proud history. In an official statement, the Cabinet announced a new archaeological discovery in the city of Tama in Sohag Governorate.

This is part of the excavation work being carried out by the Egyptian archaeological mission affiliated with the Supreme Council of Antiquities at the "Al-Qarya al-Dawir" site in Tama.

The statement noted that the excavations led to the discovery of the remains of a fully integrated residential complex for monks dating back to the Byzantine era, providing important archaeological insights into the nature of settlement and monastic lifestyles during that historical period.

The Cabinet emphasized that this discovery contributes to enriching scientific knowledge of the region’s history and reflects the diversity and richness of Egypt’s cultural heritage throughout the ages. It also supports the state’s efforts to highlight the archaeological significance of the “Al-Qarya al-Dawir” site and strengthen its position on the cultural tourism map, in line with plans to preserve heritage and support archaeological research.
