In line with the political leadership’s directives to support women’s empowerment and strengthen their role in comprehensive development, Major General Amr Abdel Moneim Mostafa, Chairman of the Upper Egypt Development Authority – to visit the headquarters of the National Council for Women, headed by Counselor Amal Ammar, where a joint cooperation protocol was signed between the two parties. The protocol aims to support sustainable development efforts in Upper Egypt governorates and enhance women’s participation in development projects implemented by the Authority in those governorates.
The protocol aims to foster cooperation in implementing joint programs and projects that contribute to the economic and social empowerment of women, support entrepreneurship and small and micro-enterprises, as well as build capacity and raise community awareness, thereby positively impacting the improvement of living standards for families in Upper Egypt.
The head of the Upper Egypt Development Authority noted that this collaboration is part of the Authority’s commitment to maximizing the benefits of institutional partnerships with national entities, foremost among them the National Council for Women, given that women are essential partners in the development process. He added that the coming phase will see the implementation of a number of targeted initiatives aimed at female breadwinners, young people, and girls in the governorates of Upper Egypt.
For her part, the President of the National Council for Women welcomed the collaboration with the Upper Egypt Development Authority, emphasizing that the protocol represents an important step toward unifying efforts to achieve integrated development and support women economically and socially, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
The signing of this protocol reaffirms the state’s commitment to supporting women’s issues and strengthening their role in achieving sustainable development, particularly in the most underserved areas of Upper Egypt
The meeting was attended on behalf of the Authority by Dr. Mazen Shakuir—Advisor to the Authority’s President for Government and Institutional Communications—and Ms. Al-Shahba Ali—Director General of Legal Affairs. Representing the Council were Ms. Iman Khalifa—Secretary General of the Council—and Ms. Mary Lewis – Member of the National Council for Women and Rapporteur of the Rural Women’s Committee, Counselor Mohamed Suidan, and Counselor Mohamed Afia – Legal Advisors to the Council, Ms. Mai Mahmoud – Director General of the Skills Development Department, and Ms. Aya Al-Daba – Director General of the Legal Department.
